Commitments of Traders Report – September 15, 2014
Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended September 09. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent and WTI , but decreased in natural gas, heating oil and gasoline during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas fell by -30.2k to +102.3k in futures and decreased by -29.0k to +202.4.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,930 active rigs as of September 12, 2014, higher by +6 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +8 to 1,592 (ht: +16; vt-dir: -8) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -2 to 338 (ht: -7; vt-dir: +5). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 to 234 whereas vertical/directional rigs decreased by -4 to 201 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +1 to 20 in Granite Wash (TX).

Propane: US propane inventories decreased by -78k bbl to 76.0m bbl for the week ended September 5, 2014. PADD 3 inventories dropped -1%, or -601k bbl, to 41.0m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +2% or by +638k bbl to 26.2m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks fell -3% or -162k bbl to 5.7m bbl. Implied demand increased +33% to 1,350 kb/d; imports jumped +111% to 114 kb/d and production increased +4% to a new all-time high of 1.60 mb/d last week. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials decreased net length in natural gas, heating oil, Brent, gasoline and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas declined by -16.9k to +132.5k in futures and fell by -15.1k to +231.4k in futures and optio.....

Oil rigs increased by +9 to 1,584 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +11) while gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 340 (ht: +5; vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -2 to 231 whereas vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +4 to 205 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 30 in Marcellus ( SWPA ).

Propane: US propane inventories increased by +1.4m bbl to 76.1m bbl for the week ended August 29, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +1%, or +583k bbl, to 41.6m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +2% or by +464k bbl to 25.6m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks increased +3% or +189k bbl to 5.9m bbl. Implied demand increased +3% to 1,017 kb/d; imports decreased -18% to 54 kb/d and production fell -1% to 1.54 mb/d last week. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 26. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas and Brent , but decreased in heating oil, gasoline and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +13.0k to +149.4k in futures and grew by +5.9k to +246.6k in futu.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,913 active rigs as of August 29, 2014, higher by +19 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +11 to 1,575 (ht: +3; vt-dir: +8) while gas-directed rigs increased by +8 to 338 (ht: +6; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 to 70 in the Permian (NM) and vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +5 to 201 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 28 in Marcellus ( SWPA ).

EIA reported a +75 bcf injection for the week ending August 22 (Bloomberg median +77 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +77 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +71 bcf to +85 bcf with a standard deviation of 3 bcf. Our model showed +77 bcf. Nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA increased by +2 to 64 CDDs, while natural gas-weighted HDDs remained flat at 3 HDDs.
