Baker Hughes shows 459 active rigs as of July 22, 2016, higher by +13 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +14 to 371 (ht: +13; vt-dir: +1), while gas-directed rigs decreased by -1 to 88 (ht: unch; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +7 in Permian (TX), by +4 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by +2 in Permian (NM), while gas-directed horizontal rigs were relatively unchanged.

The EIA reported a +34 bcf injection for the week ending July 14, coming in below our own number and the Bloomberg median at +39 bcf. At a regional level, our biggest miss was in the Midwest. With the two largest fields in the state of California not allowed to inject, a small draw in the Pacific was to be expected. Aliso Canyon is now partially allowed to withdraw – but not inject – gas to meet peak summer day demand, while McDonald Island remains offline. Operated by PG&E, McDonald Island st.....

Please find attached data and charts detailing U. S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended July 14, 2016. Total net imports for the reference week averaged 1.20 bcf/d, lower by -0.08 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 2.19 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 33.9 bcf/d, higher by +2.6 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 93 population-weighted CDDs, higher by 9 CDDs week over week.

We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in gasoil and heating oil , but decreased in Brent, gasoline, natural gas and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas declined by -2.2k to +148.3k in futures and decreased by -4.....

Baker Hughes shows 446 active rigs as of July 15, 2016, higher by +7 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +6 to 357 (ht: +1; vt-dir: +5), while gas-directed rigs decreased by +1 to 88 (ht: unch; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 in Anadarko (TX) and by +1 in Permian (NM), while declining by -1 in Bakken (ND), Permian (TX) and Other. Horizontal gas rigs increased by +1 in Marcellus ( NEPA ) and by +1 in Other, while decreasing by -1 in Haynesville (TX) and Marcellus (WV).

The EIA reported a +64 bcf injection for the week ending July 7, coming in line with our own number and the Bloomberg median at +62 bcf. At a regional level, we missed the South Central injection with the second shoe dropping in the East. This is the second week in a row where we failed to account for interregional dynamics (last week’s breakdown missed the South Central – Midwest pair). Figure 1 helps us visually determine the price level where NG started to lose ground to coal in MI.....

Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 31.4 bcf/d, lower by -2.0 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 84 population-weighted CDDs, flat week over week.
