Total net imports for the reference week averaged 1.00 bcf/d, lower by -2.48 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 3.82 bcf/d. Baker Hughes shows 502 active rigs as of February 26, 2016, lower by -12 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -13 to 400 (ht: -15; vt-dir: +2) while gas-directed rigs increased by +1 to 102 (ht: -3; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -6 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by -2 in Permian (TX) and Permian (NM). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -2 in Haynesville (TX).

The EIA reported a -117 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 18, coming in significantly weaker than our own number at -132 bcf, and the Bloomberg median at -136 bcf. This implies a material loosening of the weather-adjusted supply and demand balances following last week’s strong withdrawal. Regionally, South Central was responsible for all of the miss compared to our expectations. Baker Hughes shows 514 active rigs as of February 19, 2016, lower by -27 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -26 to 413 (ht: -18; vt-dir: -8) while gas-directed rigs dropped by -1 to 101 (ht: unch; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -4 in Anadarko (OK) and Bakken (ND) and by -3 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 in Granite Wash (TX) and by +1 in Granite Wash (OK).

The EIA reported a -158 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 11, coming in stronger than our own number at -150 bcf, and the Bloomberg median at -152 bcf. Following the recovery in power burns last week, this draw implied the tightest weather-adjusted supply and demand balance for the year so far.
