Commitments of Traders Report – February 15, 2016

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended February 09. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in gasoline, natural gas, gasoil, heating oil and WTI , but decreased in Brent during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas grew by +22.5k to +20.1k in futures and rose by +14.1k to .....

Baker Hughes shows 541 active rigs as of February 12, 2016, lower by -30 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -28 to 439 (ht: -23; vt-dir: -5) while gas-directed rigs dropped by -2 to 102 (ht: -2; vt-dir: unch). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -3 in Anadarko (OK), Bakken (ND), Permian (TX) and Permian (NM). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -2 in Marcellus ( NEPA ) and by -1 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Haynesville (TX).

Please note our extended U.S. and Canada tables covering the remainder of the withdrawal season are included in the attachment. The EIA reported a -70 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 4, coming in weaker than our own number at -76 bcf, and the Bloomberg median at -77 bcf. This implies a significant loosening of the supply and demand balances due to very weak power burns at the beginning of the reference week. Regionally, the biggest surprise was the +9 bcf injection into salt-dom.....

Please find attached data and charts detailing U. S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended February 4, 2016. Total net imports for the reference week averaged 1.82 bcf/d, lower by -1.12 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 4.42 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 22.3 bcf/d, lower by -2.7 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 106 electric-weighted HDDs, lower by -48 from the previ.....

We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent and gasoline , but decreased in natural gas, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas fell by -15.4k to -2.5k in futures and decreased by -3......

Baker Hughes shows 571 active rigs as of February 5, 2016, lower by -48 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -30 to 467 (ht: -22; vt-dir: -8) while gas-directed rigs dropped by -18 to 104 (ht: -7; vt-dir: -11). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -9 in Eagle Ford (TX), by -5 in Anadarko (OK) and by -3 in Anadarko TX) and Permian (NM). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -3 in Haynesville (LA) and by -2 in Marcellus ( SWPA ), while increasing by +4 in Eagle Ford (TX).

The EIA reported a -152 bcf withdrawal for the week ending January 28, coming in-line with our own number at -151 bcf, and stronger than the Bloomberg median at -150 bcf. The draw implies a looser balance versus the previous week as a result of the demand destruction brought on by superstorm Jonas. However, this weekend we saw a further loosening of the supply and demand balance driven primarily by weak power burns. Last week we said that the supply and demand balance implied by the EIA .....

Please find attached data and charts detailing U. S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended January 28, 2016. Total net imports for the reference week averaged 2.68 bcf/d, lower by -1.20 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 3.69 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 24.8 bcf/d, lower by -1.3 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 154 electric-weighted HDDs, lower by -14 from the previ.....
