Total net imports for the reference week averaged 2.82 bcf/d, higher by +0.28 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 5.37 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 26.0 bcf/d, lower by -0.1 bcf/d week-over-week. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent, natural gas, gasoil and heating oil , but decreased in gasoline and WTI during the reference week. Baker Hughes shows 650 active rigs as of January 15, 2016, lower by -14 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -1 to 515 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +1) while gas-directed rigs dropped by -13 to 135 (ht: -6; vt-dir: -7). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 in Anadarko (OK) and Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs declined by -2 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Haynesville (LA), while increasing by +2 in Marcellus (WV).

The EIA reported a -168 bcf withdrawal for the week ending January 7, coming in weaker than our own number at -175 bcf, and the Bloomberg median at -178 bcf. This would be the third week in a row of alternating surprises from the EIA following a pretty good start since they released the new regional breakdown. Regionally, the main culprit remains the Midwest as it combines with the East and South Central to swing by close to 1 bcf/d week-on-week compared to our expectations. The holiday e.....

Oil rigs decreased by -20 to 516 (ht: -16; vt-dir: -4) while gas-directed rigs dropped by -14 to 148 (ht: -14; vt-dir: unch). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -4 in Permian (NM), by -3 in Bakken (ND), by -2 in Anadarko (OK) and by -2 in Anadarko (TX), while Marcellus (WV) saw its horizontal gas rigs drop by -4.
