Baker Hughes shows 1,736 active rigs as of October 11, 2013, lower by -14 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -5 to 1,367 (ht: +14; vt-dir: -19) and gas-directed rigs decreased by -9 to 369 (ht: -7; vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +6 in the Anadarko (TX) to 43 and by +3 to 130 in the Permian (TX), while vertical/directional oil rigs fell by -13 to 215 in states not associated with an active resource play. Oil rigs increased by +10 to 1,372 (ht: +9; vt-dir: +1) and gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 378 (ht: +5; vt-dir: -3).
