Schlumberger (Smith) STATS
STATS shows 1,791 active rigs as of October 5, 2012, up +22 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs increased by +31 (ht: +15, vt-dir: +16.) and total gas rigs decreased by -9 (ht: -12, vt-dir: +3). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +11 in “Other” region; eight of which came from Texas in areas outside the established shale plays. Vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +15 in Permian (TX). Horizontal gas rigs decreased by -8 in Eagle Ford (TX) to 31.

U.S. crude oil inventories increased by +1,672k bbl in the week ended October 5, while Cushing stocks rose by +300k bbl. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended October 2. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials cut WTI net length (for the second consecutive week) during the week ended October 2 but at a milder pace. Non-commercial net length fell by -19.3k to 253.9k i.....

Horizontal oil rigs increased by +9 in Eagle Ford (TX). Horizontal oil rig count decreased by -5 in Permian (TX) and in “Other” region each. Horizontal oil rig count in Eagle Ford (TX) is at 209, the highest in history and is the same as the historical high in Bakken (ND). Permian (TX) lost -16 Vertical/D.....
