Oil rigs increased by +7 to 425 (ht: +2; vt-dir: +5), while gas-directed rigs increased by +4 to 96 (ht: +3; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +1 in Bakken (ND) and by +1 in Permian (NM). Horizontal gas rigs increased by +1 in Marcellus ( SWPA ), by +1 in Marcellus (WV), by +1 in Woodford (Arkoma) and by +1 in Fayetteville (AR), while decreasing by -1 in Eagle Ford (TX).

Horizontal oil rigs increased by +1 in the Permian (TX) and by +1 in the Bakken (ND), and by +3 in areas of TX not associated with a tight oil play.
