PLEASE NOTE : Starting today, LCMC will also publish a rig report based on Baker Hughes data. The new report will have the identical breakdown as the Schlumberger (Smith) STATS to allow a direct comparison between the two data sets. Oil rigs went up by +32 (ht: +10, vt-dir: +22) and total gas rigs fell b.....

Schlumberger (Smith) Rigs

STATS shows 1,873 active rigs as of March 2, 2012, up +17 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +34 (ht: +24, vt-dir: +10) and total gas rigs fell by -17 (ht: -20, vt-dir: +3). Eagle Ford (TX) horizontal oil rigs went up by +9, while Monterey (CA) vertical/directional oil rigs went up by 5 and Permian (TX) vertical/directional oil rigs went up by +4. Marcellus ( NEPA ) lost the most horizontal gas rigs at -7, followed by Haynesville (LA) and Marcellus (WV) where horizontal gas rigs fell b.....

STATS shows 1,856 active rigs as of February 24, 2012, up +7 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +11 (ht: +10, vt-dir: +1) and total gas rigs fell by -4 (ht: +1, vt-dir: -5). Eagle Ford (TX) gained 11 horizontal oil rigs and Anadarko (OK) gained another 3 horizontal oil rigs. Marcellus (WV) regained 5 horizontal gas rigs and Haynesville lost another 5 horizontal gas rigs.

STATS shows 1,849 active rigs as of February 17, 2012, up +6 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +45 (ht: +25, vt-dir: +20) and total gas rigs fell by -39 (ht: -25, vt-dir: -14). Anadarko (OK) and Permian (TX) each gained 5 horizontal oil rigs and Monterey (CA) gained 7 vertical/directional oil rigs. Marcellus (WV) lost 7 horizontal gas rigs and Haynesville (LA) lost another 4 horizontal gas rigs. Marcellus ( SWPA ) also lost 4 vertical/directional gas rigs.

STATS shows 1,843 active rigs as of February 10, 2012, up +3 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +26 (ht: +23, vt-dir: +3) and total gas rigs fell by -23 (ht: -12, vt-dir: -11). Eagle Ford horizontal gas rigs fell by -4 and horizontal oil rigs went up by +3 likely due to reclassification. Horizontal oil rigs in the Anadarko play went up by +12 as horizontal gas rigs in the Granite Wash play fell by -9. The Texas Permian play also saw an increase of +5 vertical/directional oil rigs, whi.....

STATS shows 1,824 active rigs as of January 27, 2012, down -44 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +3 (ht: +3, vt-dir: unch) and total gas rigs fell by -47 (ht: -38, vt-dir: -9). The plans to cut back in natural gas drilling and to focus in liquid rich plays as outlined by the producers in their earnings calls recently, seem to be taking hold. The drop in horizontal gas rigs was led by the Granite Wash basin in Oklahoma with -17 less rigs, which were moved to oil and liquids rich play.....

STATS shows 1,868 active rigs as of January 20, 2012, up +25 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs fell by -6 (ht: -9, vt-dir: +3) and total gas rigs rose by +31 (ht: +15, vt-dir: +16). The increase in horizontal rigs was lead by Eagle Ford (+4) and Marcellus SW (+3), while Haynesville in LA saw the biggest drop by -3 rigs. The increase in the vertical/directional rigs was led by Louisiana (+15) with a concentration in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale area (+7) and Cameron Parish (+4) located in the Sou.....

STATS shows 1,843 active rigs as of January 13, 2012, down -6 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs rose by +7 (ht: -1, vt-dir: +8) and total gas rigs dropped by -13 (ht: -4, vt-dir: -9). Eagle Ford Gas rigs dropped by -6 and Oil rigs rose by +7, which would imply re-classification.

STATS shows 1,849 active rigs as of January 6, 2012, down -26 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs rose by +1 (ht: +5, vt-dir: -4) and total gas rigs dropped by -27 (ht: -31, vt-dir: +4). West Virginia Marcellus horizontal gas rigs dropped by -14, from 42 to 28. Moreover, total number of horizontal oil rigs in WV remained zero, suggestion the sharp drop is not due to rig re-classification. It is likely that the suspension of operations at five wells used for disposing of hydraulic fracturing flowb.....
