US: Baker Hughes shows 950 active rigs as of July 21, 2017, lower by -2 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -1 to 764 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +1), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -1 to 186 (ht: +1; vt-dir: -2). The EIA reported a +28 bcf injection for the week ending July 13th. The number was -5 bcf lower than both our flow model and the Bloomberg median. The two regions that led to our model’s 5 bcf miss were the Midwest and the South Central. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -0.25 bcf/d, higher by +0.50 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 1.59 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 34.0 bcf/d, higher by +3.6 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 96 population weighted CDDs, up 6 week over week.
