Please find attached data and charts detailing U.S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended March 16, 2017. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -0.62 bcf/d, lower by -0.35 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged +0.12 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 23.9 bcf/d, higher by +3.3 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 126 electric-weighted HDDs, up 41 week over week.

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended March 14. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas , but decreased in Brent, gasoline, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +35.9k to +361.1k in futures and increased by +36.2k .....

Baker Hughes shows 788 active rigs as of March 17, 2017, higher by +20 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +14 to 631 (ht: +14; vt-dir: unch), and gas-directed rigs increased by +6 to 157 (ht: +5; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +8 in Anadarko (OK), by +4 in Bakken (ND), by +1 in Permian (TX) and by +4 in Other areas not associated with a specific play, while decreasing by -2 in Permian (NM) and by -1 in Bakken (MT). The EIA reported a -53 bcf withdrawal for the week ending March 9, a smaller draw than the -59 bcf our model had anticipated and also below the Bloomberg median of -57 bcf. As for a regional breakdown, the largest miss came in South Central where we had flat inventory, while the EIA reported a +5 bcf injection. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -0.29 bcf/d, higher by +0.77 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged +0.88 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 20.4 bcf/d, lower by -0.2 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 85 electric-weighted HDDs, flat week over week.

Oil rigs increased by +8 to 617 (ht: +3; vt-dir: +5), and gas-directed rigs increased by +5 to 151 (ht: +3; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +7 in Other areas not associated with a specific play, while decreasing by -3 in Permian (NM) and by -1 in Anadarko (TX). Horizontal gas rigs increased by +2 in Haynesville (LA) and by +1 in Other.

The EIA reported a -68 bcf withdrawal for the week ending March 2, a larger draw than the amount our model anticipated and also well above the Bloomberg median of -62 bcf. To be fair, our flow model performed quite well this week: the implied flow by the EIA was indeed -64 bcf, and a 4 bcf reclassification from working gas to base gas in salt domes raised that number to -68 bcf. The salt reclassification was somewhat surprising as salt domes have much tighter margin of errors in their invent.....
