Baker Hughes shows 1,932 active rigs as of July 20, 2012, down -17 from a week ago. Oil rigs were down by -13 (ht: +3, vt-dir: -16) and gas rigs dropped by -4 (ht: -5, vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +4 in Eagle Ford (TX), +4 in Permian (TX), and +2 in Anadarko (TX), while going down by -2 in Anadarko (OK), -1 in Permian (NM), and -7 in parts of Texas not assigned to a specific play/basin in our models. Vertical/directional oil rigs went down by -8 in Permian (TX) and -3 in Permia.....

STATS shows 1,853 active rigs as of July 20, 2012, down -7 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs were up by +17 (ht: +10, vt-dir: +7) and total gas rigs decreased by -24 (ht: -21, vt-dir: -3). This week marked the first time total oil rigs exceeded 1,400, representing an almost sevenfold increase from the low of 211 oil rigs recorded the week ended April 10, 2009. EIA reported a +28 bcf injection for the week ended July 13 (Bloomberg median +34 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +32 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +28 bcf to +46 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed +32 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA dropped to 92 CDDs from a season-high of 100 CDDs the prior week.
