STATS shows 1,769 active rigs as of October 5, 2012, down -37 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs decreased by -28 (ht: -9, vt-dir: -19.) and total gas rigs decreased by -9 (ht: -8, vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +9 in Eagle Ford (TX). Horizontal oil rig count decreased by -5 in Permian (TX) and in “Other” region each. Horizontal oil rig count in Eagle Ford (TX) is at 209, the highest in history and is the same as the historical high in Bakken (ND). Permian (TX) lost -16 Vertical/D.....

EIA reported a +77 bcf injection for the week ended September 28 (Bloomberg median +73 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +73 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +55 bcf to +81 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed +74 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased to 29 CDDs from 30 CDDs the prior week. Nationwide HDDs increased to 34 from 23 in the prior week. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Baker Hughes shows 1,845 active rigs as of September 28, 2012, down -11 from a week ago. Oil rigs increased by +8 (ht: +10, vt-dir: -2) and total gas rigs decreased by -19 (ht: -17., vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +7 in “Other” regions and +3 in Anadarko (TX), while going down by -2 in Anadarko (OK). Vertical/directional oil rigs went up by +4 in Permian (TX) and went down -4 in “Other” regions. Horizontal gas rigs went down -5 to 61 and -4 in 28 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Marcellus.....
