Horizontal oil rigs went down by -3 in Anadarko (OK), followed by -2 in Bakken (ND), while going up by +2 in Anadarko (TX). EIA reported a +42 bcf injection for the week ended March 30 (Bloomberg median +34 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +33 bcf). The 27 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +25 bcf to +45 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed +34 bcf. Weather was cooler week on week (77 HDDs vs. 50 HDDs) as higher temperatures in the Northeast more than outweighed a slightly cooler Northwest. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Baker Hughes shows 1,976 active rigs as of March 30, 2012, up +11 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +5 (ht: +1, vt-dir: +4) and total gas rigs went up by +6 (ht: +5, vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs went down by -5 in Eagle Ford (TX), followed by -3 in Anadarko (OK), while going up by +2 in Bakken (MT) and Permian (TX). Gas rigs did not have any significant moves on a regional basis.

The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +40 bcf to +70 bcf with a standard deviation of 6 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed +44 bcf. STATS shows 1,901 active rigs as of March 23, 2012, up +3 rigs from a week ago. Total oil rigs were unchanged week on week (ht: +1, vt-dir: -1) and total gas rigs went up by +3 (ht: +6, vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +5 in Bakken (ND), while falling by -7 in Eagle Ford (TX). Permian (NM) gained another +5 vt-dir oil rigs.
