Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 7. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. STATS shows 1,824 active rigs as of August 10, 2012, down -6 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs were up by +3 (ht: +5, vt-dir: -2) and total gas rigs decreased by -9 (ht: -5, vt-dir: -4). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +8 in Permina (TX) and by +2 in Permian (NM), while going down by -3 in Anadarko (TX). Baker Hughes shows 1,927 active rigs as of August 3, 2012, unchanged from a week ago. Oil rigs were up by +3 (ht: +7, vt-dir: -4) and total gas rigs dropped by -3 (ht: -2, vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +8 in Eagle Ford (TX) and +3 in Bakken (ND), while going down by -4 in Anadarko (TX). Vertical/directional oil rigs went down by -3 in Permian (NM) and by -2 in Permian (TX). EIA reported a +24 bcf injection for the week ended August 3 (Bloomberg median +30 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +30 bcf). The 27 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +23 bcf to +34 bcf with a standard deviation of 2 bcf. Our model showed +31 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased to 87 CDDs from 91 CDDs the prior week.
