EIA reported a +105 bcf natural gas inventory build for the week ending May 20. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. The week ended May 17 saw another fall in WTI net length but it was relatively more moderate compared to last week. Net length declined in gasoline and was flat in heating oil. .....

EIA reported a +92 bcf natural gas inventory build for the week ending May 13. This build just slightly exceeded consensus estimates (Bloomberg median +90 bcf and Bloomberg Whisper of +91 bcf) and rose above both the prior 5-year average (+91 bcf) and year-ago builds (+78 bcf). This build was larger than consensus estimates (Bloomberg median +67 bcf and Bloomberg Whisper of +64 bcf), but still smaller than the prior 5-year average (+78 bcf) and the year-ago build (+83 bcf). This week’s injection implies a large loosening of balances on the week, but balances actually appear in line with the same calendar week last year (and possibly still tighter). This build was smaller than consensus estimates (Bloomberg median +38 bcf), the prior 5-year average (+65 bcf) and the year-ago build (+81). This week’s injection once again implies tighter balances on both the week and the year (after adjusting for weather).
