Commitments of Traders Report – July 28, 2014
Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended July 22. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in WTI , but decreased in natural gas, heating oil, Brent and gasoline during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas decreased by -28.0k to +192.3k in futures and fell by -19.4k to +301.8k in fut.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,880 active rigs as of July 25, 2014, higher by +11 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +8 to 1,562 (ht: +3; vt-dir: +5) while gas-directed rigs increased by +3 to 318 (ht: +2; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 to 135 in the Anadarko (OK), but decreased by -5 in Eagle Ford (TX). Vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -1 to 210 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 15 in Granite Wash (TX).

EIA reported a +90 bcf injection for the week ending July 18 (Bloomberg median +96 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +93 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +89 bcf to +104 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +94 bcf. Nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased by -1 to 69 CDDs, while natural gas-weighted HDDs increased by +3 to 5 HDD . We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials decreased net length in natural gas, heating oil, Brent, gasoline and WTI during the reference week. Baker Hughes shows 1,869 active rigs as of July 18, 2014, lower by -5 from the previous week. The number of oil rigs decreased by -9 to 1,554 (ht: +11; vt-dir: -20) while gas-directed rigs increased by +4 to 315 (ht: 0 ; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +7 to 223 in the Permian (TX) but decreased by -3 to 197 in the Eagle Ford (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 21 in Haynesville (LA).

Propane: US propane inventories increased by +3.2m bbl to 63.3m bbl for the week ended July 11, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +5%, or +1.6m bbl, to 35.6m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +7% or by +1.2m bbl to 20.2m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks increased +5% or +247k bbl to 5.0m bbl. Oil rigs increased by +1 to 1,563 (ht: +7; vt-dir: -6) while the number of gas-directed rigs remained unchanged. (ht: +1; vt-dir: -1) Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 to 200 in the Eagle Ford (TX) while vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -1 to 218 in the Permian (TX). Propane: US propane inventories increased by +3.8m bbl to 60.1m bbl for the week ended July 4, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +6%, or +1.9m bbl, to 34.0m bbl.
