Commitment of Traders Report - March 8, 2013
Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended March 5, 2013. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials reduced net length across the petroleum complex this week. Non-commercials cut net length in WTI by -525 to 314.3k in futures and by -6.3k to 358.5k in fut.....

STATS shows 1,635 active rigs as of March 8, 2013, higher by +2 for the week. Rigs drilling for oil increased by +4 to 1,281 (ht: +6; vt-dir: -2) and gas rigs declined by -2 to 354 (ht: -1; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 103 in the Anadarko (OK), while horizontal gas rigs drilling in the Eagle Ford (TX) fell by -2 to 19. Total horizontal gas rigs in the Marcellus increased by +1 to 79. Baker Hughes shows 1,748 active rigs as of March 8, 2013, lower by -5 from the previous.....

EIA reported a -146 bcf withdrawal for the week ending March 1 (Bloomberg median -132 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -133). The 27 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -118 bcf to -140 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed -133 bcf. Nationwide HDDs dropped to 191, down by -23 week on week. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA went up by +2 to 3 CDDs. Total US: -146 bcf ( LCMC : -133 bcf; Bloomberg median: -132 bcf) East: -77 bcf West: -11 bcf Producing: -58.....

STATS shows 1,633 active rigs as of March 1, 2013, lower by -13 for the week. Rigs drilling for oil decreased by -6 to 1,277 (ht: -12; vt-dir: +6) and gas rigs declined by -7 to 356 (ht: -7; vt-dir: unchanged). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -13 to 172 in Eagle Ford (TX), while vertical/direction rigs in the same play increased by +9 to 37. Meanwhile, horizontal gas rigs drilling in the Marcellus ( SWPA ) fell by -4 to 20. Baker Hughes shows 1,753 active rigs as of March 1, 2013, lower by -4 fro.....

EIA reported a -171 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 22 (Bloomberg median -170 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -172). The 23 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -137 bcf to -177 bcf with a standard deviation of 9 bcf. Our model showed -174 bcf. Nationwide HDDs jumped to 214, up by +25 week on week. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended February 19. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials decreased net length for the first time since December 11, when the price of WTI was $85.79. Yet net length still remains at its highest level since Februar.....

STATS shows 1,646 active rigs as of February 22, 2013, lower by -7 for the week. Oil rigs decreased by -2 to 1,283 (ht: -1; vt-dir: -1) and gas rigs decreased by -5 to 363 (ht: -9; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 183 in the Bakken (ND) but fell by -2 to 185 in Eagle Ford (TX). Horizontal gas rigs drilling in both the Eagle Ford (TX) and Marcellus (WV) fell by -4 to 20, but increased by +3 to 24 in another part of the Marcellus ( SWPA ). Baker Hughes shows 1,757 active rigs.....
