Oil rigs increased by +2 to 862 (ht: -1; vt-dir: +3), and gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 184 (ht: -1; vt-dir: +3). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +2 in Permian (TX), by +1 in Anadarko (KS) and by +1 in Anadarko (TX), while declining by -1 in Permian (NM) and by -4 in Other areas not associated with a specific play. The EIA reported a +70 bcf net build in inventory this week. The injection was -3 bcf lower than our estimate and -8 bcf lower than the Bloomberg median. While our revision this morning got us closer to the salt number this week, the Pacific and Midwest both injected more than we predicted, making our original Tuesday estimate of a 70 bcf build ironically correct – albeit for the wrong reasons. Our preliminary estimate for next week’s number is an injection in the low to mid-60 bcf range. .....

Please find the attached data and charts detailing U.S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended August 23, 2018. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -2.89 bcf/d, up +0.05 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged -0.73 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 35.7 bcf/d, down by -2.2 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 79 population weighted CDDs, down by -10 week over week.

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 21. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas , but decreased in Brent, gasoline, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +24.4k to +279.1k in futures and increased by +21.7k.....

Oil rigs decreased by -9 to 860 (ht: -2; vt-dir: -7), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -4 to 182 (ht: -1; vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 in Permian (TX) and by +1 in Monterey (CA), while declining by -4 in Bakken (ND), by -1 in Anadarko (OK) and by -1 in Permian (NM). The EIA reported a +48 bcf net build in inventory this week. The injection was -7 bcf lower than our estimate and -2 bcf lower than the Bloomberg median. Almost the entirety of our miss this week was in the South Central, which was -8 bcf lower than our flow model for the region. Our preliminary estimate for next week’s number is an injection in the mid 60 bcf range. If we further break down the South Central, the majority of our miss boiled down to salt cavern draws this week. Our sample .....
