Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended July 24. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent, gasoline, gasoil and heating oil , but decreased in natural gas and WTI during the reference week. US: Baker Hughes shows 1047 active rigs as of July 27, 2018, higher by +2 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +3 to 861 (ht: unch; vt-dir: +3), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -1 to 186 (ht: unch; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +1 in Anadarko (OK), by +1 in Anadarko (TX), by +1 in Bakken (ND) and by +1 in Other areas not associated with a specific play, while declining by -2 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by -2 in Permian (TX). The EIA reported a +24 bcf net change in inventory this week. The injection was -6 bcf lower than our estimate and -11 bcf lower than the Bloomberg median. Almost the entirety of our error was in the South Central salt draw, which withdrew 6 bcf more than our estimate. Below we delve into the factors that led to this week’s 16 bcf salt pull, which tied a record set on the week ending July 28th, 2016 for the largest summer draw from salt caverns. Please find the attached data and charts detailing U.S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended July 19, 2018. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -1.98 bcf/d, flat week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged -0.56 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 40.4 bcf/d, up by +3.1 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 96 population weighted CDDs, up by +7 week over week.

Non-commercials decreased net length in Brent, gasoline, natural gas, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. The EIA reported a +46 bcf net change in inventory this week. The injection was -12 bcf lower than our estimate and -10 bcf lower than the Bloomberg median. The vast majority (-9 bcf) of our error came from the South Central where both the injections in non-salts were lower than our models expected and the draws from salts were stronger than our models predicted.
