Commitments of Traders Report – June 22, 2018

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended June 19. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in gasoline, natural gas, gasoil and heating oil , but decreased in Brent and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +8.2k to +261.4k in futures and increased by +5.4k .....

US: Baker Hughes shows 1050 active rigs as of June 22, 2018, lower by -7 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -1 to 862 (ht: +2; vt-dir: -3), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -6 to 188 (ht: -4; vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +2 in Anadarko (TX), by +1 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by +1 in Permian (NM), while declining by -1 in Anadarko (OK) and by -1 in Permian (TX). Horizontal gas rigs decreased by -1 in Eagle Ford (TX), by -1 in Granite Wash (TX), by -1 in Haynesville (LA).....


EIA NG STORAGE REPORT | June 21, 2018

The EIA reported a +91 bcf net change in inventory this week. The injection was +4 bcf higher than our estimate and +5 bcf higher than the Bloomberg median. Our underestimate was mainly in the South Central. Again this week, the South Central managed to maintain strong injections. This trend however is unlikely to continue this coming week with our regional balances becoming much tighter and our survey of salt caverns currently showing a net draw. Please find the attached data and charts detailing U.S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended June 14, 2018. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -2.04 bcf/d, down by -0.18 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged -1.09 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 29.6 bcf/d, up by 1.2 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 65 population weighted CDDs, up by 9 week over week.

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended June 12. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent and natural gas , but decreased in gasoline, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +4.7k to +255.4k in futures and grew by +2.7k to +2.....

US: Baker Hughes shows 1057 active rigs as of June 15, 2018, lower by -3 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +1 to 863 (ht: +2; vt-dir: -1), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -4 to 194 (ht: -4; vt-dir: unch). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 in Bakken (ND), by +2 in Anadarko (OK), by +2 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by +1 in Permian (NM), while declining by -5 in Permian (TX) and by -1 in Bakken (MT). Horizontal gas rigs increased by +1 in Other areas not associated with a specific play,.....

The EIA reported a +96 bcf net change in inventory this week. The injection was 5 bcf higher than our estimate and 6 bcf higher than the Bloomberg median. Our underestimate came almost entirely from South Central non-salts. Our preliminary estimate for next week’s number is a build in the mid-80 bcf range. Increases in fossil fuel burns in the ERCOT during the reference week combined with a slight increase in flows out of the region led us to believe injections in the South Central would.....
