Propane: US propane inventories fell by -2.5m bbl to 47.4m bbl for the week ended December 20, 2013, which is -11.5m bbl below the five-year average. PADD 3 inventories fell by -4.5% to 25.9m bbl. PADD 2 stocks fell -5.1%, or -801k bbl, to 15.1m bbl, and in PADD 1, stocks declined by -274k bbl to 3.9m bbl. Implied demand decreased -4% to 1.55 mb/d; imports declined by -3% to 117 kb/d and production increased +2% to 1.44 mb/d last week.

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended December 17. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas and WTI , but decreased in Brent, gasoline and heating oil during the reference week. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas by +62.6 to +320.7k in futures and by +79.8 to +458.8k in futures .....

Baker Hughes shows 1,767 active rigs as of December 20, 2013, lower by -13 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -16 to 1,395 (ht: -12; vt-dir: -4) while gas-directed rigs increased by +3 to 372 (ht: +7; vt-dir: -4). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -3 to 153 in the Bakken (ND) and fell by -4 to 177 in the Eagle Ford (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +4 to 27 in the Marcellus (WV).

EIA reported a record-breaking -285 bcf withdrawal for the week ending December 13 (Bloomberg median -263 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: -275 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from —280 bcf to -220 bcf with a standard deviation of 15 bcf. Our model showed -281 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted HDDs increased by -88 to 253. Propane: US propane inventories fell by -2.7m bbl to 50.0m bbl for the week ended December 13, 2013, which is -10.7m bbl below the five-year average. PADD 3 inventories fell by -4.3% to 27.1m bbl. PADD 2 stocks fell -5.8%, or -988k bbl, to 16.0m bbl, and in PADD 1, stocks declined by -266k bbl to 4.2m bbl. Implied demand increased +4% to 1.62 mb/d; imports declined by -9% to 121 kb/d and production dropped -5% to 1.41 mb/d last week.

Baker Hughes shows 1,780 active rigs as of December 13, 2013, higher by +8 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +14 to 1,411(ht: +7; vt-dir: +7) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -6 to 369 (ht: +1; vt-dir: -7). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +8 to 156 in the Bakken (ND) but fell by -3 to 90 in the Anadarko (OK). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 21 in the Marcellus ( SWPA ).

EIA reported a -81 bcf withdrawal for the week ending December 6 (Bloomberg median -85 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: -84 bcf). The 25 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -75 bcf to -107 bcf with a standard deviation of 8 bcf. Our model showed -93 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted HDDs decreased by -35 to 165. Propane: US propane inventories fell by -1.7m bbl to 52.6m bbl for the week ended December 6, 2013, which is -10.6m bbl below the five-year average. PADD 3 inventories increased for the first time in 12 weeks, adding a scant +100k bbl to stand at 28.3m bbl. PADD 2 stocks drew -1.5m bbl to 17m bbl reflecting heightened demand for the heating fuel, similar to PADD 1, where stocks declined by -189k bbl to 4.5m bbl. Implied demand decreased -7% to 1.56 mb/d; imports increased by +6% to 133 k.....

*Expanded Coverage* of the Commitments of Traders Report – December 9, 2013
We are expanding our total market natural gas coverage by adding two new contracts: NYMEX Natural Gas Last Day Financial and ICE Natural Gas Penultimate. The ICE Natural Gas Penultimate contract was converted from an OTC swap to a futures contract in November 2012, however, despite its size, the CFTC began reporting data for this contract on May 7, 2013. Upon our inquiry, the CFTC responded that the Commission “had the confidence in the data to report it” on that date. Please f.....
