STATS shows 1,856 active rigs as of February 24, 2012, up +7 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +11 (ht: +10, vt-dir: +1) and total gas rigs fell by -4 (ht: +1, vt-dir: -5). Eagle Ford (TX) gained 11 horizontal oil rigs and Anadarko (OK) gained another 3 horizontal oil rigs. Marcellus (WV) regained 5 horizontal gas rigs and Haynesville lost another 5 horizontal gas rigs.

EIA reported a -166 bcf withdrawal for the week ended February 17 (Bloomberg median -170 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -172 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -125 bcf to -185 bcf with a standard deviation of 15 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed -167 bcf. Weather was cooler week on week (203 HDDs vs. 175 HDDs) and for the first time since the week ended November 10, 2011, cooler year on year (203 HDDs vs. 175 HDDs). Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended February 14. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Schlumberger (Smith) Rigs
STATS shows 1,849 active rigs as of February 17, 2012, up +6 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +45 (ht: +25, vt-dir: +20) and total gas rigs fell by -39 (ht: -25, vt-dir: -14). Anadarko (OK) and Permian (TX) each gained 5 horizontal oil rigs and Monterey (CA) gained 7 vertical/directional oil rigs. Marcellus (WV) lost 7 horizontal gas rigs and Haynesville (LA) lost another 4 horizontal gas rigs. Marcellus ( SWPA ) also lost 4 vertical/directional gas rigs.

EIA reported a -127 bcf withdrawal for the week ended February 10 (Bloomberg median -120 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -120 bcf). STATS shows 1,843 active rigs as of February 10, 2012, up +3 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +26 (ht: +23, vt-dir: +3) and total gas rigs fell by -23 (ht: -12, vt-dir: -11).
