Schlumberger (Smith) STATS

STATS shows 1,857 active rigs as of July 6, 2012, down -22 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs came down by -4 (ht: 0, vt-dir: -4) and total gas rigs dropped by -18 (ht: -12, vt-dir: -6). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +4 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by +1 in Permian (TX), while going down by -2 in Anadarko (TX). Vertical/Directional oil rigs went up by +4 in Monterey (CA) but down by -2 in Permian (TX), Eagle Ford (TX) and Anadarko (OK). Horizontal gas rigs were down by -2 in Fayetteville (AR), Haynesv.....

EIA reported a +39 bcf injection for the week ended June 29 (Bloomberg median +43 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +43 bcf). The 25 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +34 bcf to +58 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +45 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days remained flat at 66 CDDs. Total US: +39 bcf ( LCMC +45 bcf; Bloomberg median +43 bcf) East: +35 bcf West: +15 bcf Producing: -11 bcf Today’s +39 bcf compares to a +90 bcf injection during the corresponding week.....

We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials shrank net length in WTI for the third week in a row during the week ended June 26. Non-commercial net length in in WTI declined by -17.0k to 184.2k in futures.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,955 active rigs as of June 29, 2012, down -7 from a week ago. Oil rigs were unchanged (ht: +8, vt-dir: -8) and total gas rigs went down by -7 (ht: -2, vt-dir: -5). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +10 in Anadarko (OK) and +2 in Permian (TX) and Permian (NM), while going down by -4 in Bakken (ND) and -3 in Eagle Ford (TX). Vertical/directional oil rigs went down by -3 in Bakken (ND), Eagle Ford (TX) and Permian (TX). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -3 in Marcellus ( NEPA )......

EIA reported a +57 bcf injection for the week ended June 22 (Bloomberg median +53 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +53 bcf). The 27 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +46 bcf to +62 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +53 bcf. Weather was again much warmer in the East and the Midwest as cooling degree days nationwide jumped to 66 CDDs from 49 CDDs the week before and heating demand all but disappeared (3 HDDs vs. 7 HDDs). EIA reported a +62 bcf injection for the week ended June 15 (Bloomberg median +64 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +66 bcf). The 27 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +59 bcf to +68 bcf with a standard deviation of 2 bcf. Our model showed +64 bcf. Much warmer weather in the East and the Midwest led to lower heating degree days nationwide (7 HDDs vs. 20 HDDs) and higher cooling demand (49 CDDs vs. 32 CDDs).
