Schlumberger (Smith) STATS

STATS shows 1,901 active rigs as of March 23, 2012, up +3 rigs from a week ago. Total oil rigs were unchanged week on week (ht: +1, vt-dir: -1) and total gas rigs went up by +3 (ht: +6, vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +5 in Bakken (ND), while falling by -7 in Eagle Ford (TX). Permian (NM) gained another +5 vt-dir oil rigs. Horizontal gas rigs went up by +4 in Eagle Ford (TX), likely due to reclassification. In Granite Wash (TX) horizontal gas rigs went up by +4 and in Granite Was.....

Baker Hughes

Baker Hughes shows 1,965 active rigs as of March 23, 2012, down -15 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went down by -4 (ht: +1, vt-dir: -5) and total gas rigs fell by -11 (ht: -7, vt-dir: -4). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +6 in Permian (NM), followed by +4 in Anadarko (TX), while falling by -5 in Anadarko (OK). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -2 in Granite Wash (TX) and by -2 in Marcellus ( NEPA ).

EIA reported a +11 bcf injection for the week ended March 16 (Bloomberg median +9 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +9 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -5 bcf to +27 bcf with a standard deviation of 7 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed +11 bcf. Weather was much warmer week on week (95 HDDs vs. 142 HDDs) driven primarily by higher temperatures in the Midwest, while the Southeast and South Central experienced close to record levels of cooling degree days. Baker Hughes shows 1,980 active rigs as of March 16, 2012, up +14 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +21 (ht: +21, vt-dir: unch) and total gas rigs fell by -7 (ht: -4, vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +7 in Anadarko (OK), followed by +3 in Permian (NM) and +2 in Anadarko (TX). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -8 in Haynesville (LA), while going up by +3 in Eagle Ford (TX) and +2 in Barnett (TX) and Woodford (Anadarko).

STATS shows 1,898 active rigs as of March 16, 2012, down -5 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +20 (ht: +15, vt-dir: +5) and total gas rigs fell by -25 (ht: -16, vt-dir: -9). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +4 in Bakken (ND), followed by +3 in Anadarko (TX), while Permian (NM) added +4 vt-dir oil rigs. Horizontal gas rigs went down by -8 in Marcellus ( SWPA ) and by -7 in Haynesville (LA), while they went up by +3 in Marcellus (WV) and by +2 in Eagle Ford (TX).

EIA reported a -64 bcf withdrawal for the week ended March 9 (Bloomberg median -59 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -60 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -50 bcf to -65 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed -59 bcf. Weather was warmer week on week (142 HDDs vs. 160 HDDs) driven primarily by higher temperatures in the West consuming region and northern part of the East Consuming region. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended March 6. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. The week ended March 6 experienced a decline in non-commercial net length in WTI for the first time since December 20. Non-commercials reduced net length in WTI by 26.7k to 28.....
