Baker Hughes shows 1,810 active rigs as of January 5, 2015, lower by -29 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -17 to 1,482 (ht: -7; vt-dir: -10) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -12 to 328 (ht: -7; vt-dir: -5). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -2 to 194 in Eagle Ford (TX) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -4 to 135 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -2 to 14 in Eagle Ford (TX).

Oil rigs decreased by -37 to 1,499 (ht: -4; vt-dir: -33) while gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 340 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -3 to 196 in the Eagle Ford (TX) whereas increased by +5 to 264 in the Permian (TX). Oil rigs decreased by -10 to 1,536 (ht: -5; vt-dir: -5) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -8 to 338 (ht: -6; vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -5 to 159 in the Bakken (ND) whereas increased by +5 to 259 in the Permian (TX). Vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -5 to 147 in the Permian (TX).
