Schlumberger (SMITH) Stats

STATS shows 1,853 active rigs as of July 20, 2012, down -7 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs were up by +17 (ht: +10, vt-dir: +7) and total gas rigs decreased by -24 (ht: -21, vt-dir: -3). This week marked the first time total oil rigs exceeded 1,400, representing an almost sevenfold increase from the low of 211 oil rigs recorded the week ended April 10, 2009. U.S. crude oil inventories declined by -809k bbl in the week ended July 13, while Cushing stocks decreased by -500k bbl. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Baker Hughes shows 1,949 active rigs as of July 13, 2012, down -12 from a week ago. Oil rigs were up by +8 (ht: +5, vt-dir: +3) and total gas rigs dropped by -20 (ht: -13, vt-dir: -7). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +3 in Permian (NM), +2 in Permian (TX), and +1 in Anadarko (OK), while going down by -3 in Eagle Ford (TX). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +4 in Barnett Combo (TX), +2 in Bakken (MT) and by +1 in Anadarko (TX), while going down by -4 in Anadarko (OK). Baker Hughes shows 1,961 active rigs as of July 6, 2012, up +6 from a week ago. Oil rigs were down by -2 (ht: -3, vt-dir: +1) and total gas rigs went up by +8 (ht: +6, vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +5 in Bakken (ND) and +4 in Eagle Ford (TX), while going down by -6 in Anadarko (OK) and -5 in “Other”. Vertical/directional oil rigs went down by -6 in Permian (TX), but were up by +3 in Anadarko (OK). Horizontal gas rigs went up by +3 in Marcellus ( NEPA ).
