U.S. crude oil inventories increased by +3,652k bbl in the week ended May 4, while Cushing stocks built +1,163k bbl. Distillate inventories drew -3,251k bbl and gasoline inventories dropped by -2,613k bbl. Please find attached this week’s detailed statistical report. Major data points: Crude oil inventories : Built +3.65m bbl (vs. the API estimate of +7.8m bbl), driven by an increase in PADD II of +1.89m bbl that offset a draw of -0.31m bbl in PADD I. Stocks in Cushing rose by +1.16m.....

We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. During the week ended May 1, non-commercial net length in WTI climbed at the sharpest pace since February 28 while the price of WTI moved up 3% from April 24 to reach $106.16 on.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,961 active rigs as of May 4, 2012, up +20 from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +27 (ht: +21, vt-dir: +6) and total gas rigs went down by -7 (ht: -2, vt-dir: -5). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +7 in Anadarko (TX) and by +2 in Bakken (ND) and Permian (NM), while vertical/directional oil rigs went up by +3 in Permian (TX) and by +3 in Permian (NM). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -2 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Woodford (Anadarko).

Horizontal oil rigs went down by -10 in Bakken (ND) and by -8 in Eagle Ford (TX), while going up by +8 in Anadarko (OK). Vertical/Directional oil rigs went down by -4 in Anadarko (OK) and Monterey (CA). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -6 in Granite Wash (OK) and by -2 in Granite Wash (TX).

Non-commercial net length in WTI rose for the second consecutive week during the week ended April 24. Non-commercials expanded net length in WTI by 11.9k to 261.9k in futures.....
