Commitments of Traders Report – August 18, 2014

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 12. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in heating oil and gasoline , but decreased in natural gas, Brent and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas decreased by -5.8k to +134.8k in futures and declined by -9.5k to +235.7k.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,910 active rigs as of August 15, 2014, higher by +6 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +1 to 1,589 (ht: +7; vt-dir: -6) while gas-directed rigs increased by +5 to 321 (ht: +5; vt-dir: +0). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 199 in the Eagle Ford (TX) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -7 to 200 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 22 in Marcellus (WV).

Propane: US propane inventories increased by +1.8m bbl to 70.3m bbl for the week ended August 8, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +4%, or +1.3m bbl, to 38.7m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +2% or by +510k bbl to 23.4m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks decreased -1% or -84k bbl to 5.4m bbl. Implied demand decreased -10% to 9919 kb/d; imports increased +105% to 115 kb/d while production fell -5% to 1.50 mb/d last week. Distillate inventories declined by -2421k bbl and gasoline inventories decreased by -1160k bbl. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in gasoline , but decreased in natural gas, heating oil, Brent and WTI during the reference week. Baker Hughes shows 1,904 active rigs as of August 8, 2014, higher by +18 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +15 to 1,588 (ht: +17; vt-dir: -2) while gas-directed rigs increased by +3 to 316 (ht: +1; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +5 to 167 in the Bakken (ND) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -2 to 207 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 23 in Haynesville (LA).
