Baker Hughes shows 1,765 active rigs as of February 28, 2014, lower by -2 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +5 to 1,430 (ht: +5; vt-dir: 0), while gas-directed rigs decreased by -7 to 335 (ht: -6; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +10 in the Permian (TX) and vertical/direction oil rigs increased by +4 to 23 in Permian (NM), while gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -3 to 22 in the Eagle Ford (TX).

EIA reported a -95 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 21 (Bloomberg median -102 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: -98 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -128 bcf to -90 bcf with a standard deviation of 9 bcf. Our model showed -92 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted HDDs decreased by -82 to 183, while nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA increased by +2 to 3 CDDs. In Focus: Propane markets We think it may be a few months before the excitement surrounding the heating fuel and petrochemical feedstock dissipates. Although the weather has been warmer, forecasts for the end of February and March as a whole are significantly colder than normal, suggesting recent declines in prices at both Conway and Mont Belvieu may be more short lived. Oil rigs increased by +2 to 1,425 (ht: -5; vt-dir: +7) while gas-directed rigs increased by +5 to 342 (ht: +4; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -2 to 153 in the Bakken (ND) and increased by +5 to 181 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +1 to 25 in the Marcellus ( SWPA ).

Propane: US propane inventories fell by -1.2m bbl to 26.7m bbl for the week ended February 14, 2014, which is -12.6m bbl below the five-year average. PADD 3 inventories fell by -3%, or -533k bbl, to 15.1m bbl. PADD 2 stocks fell -2%, or -137k bbl, to 8.8m bbl, which is 5.1m bbl below the five-year average. In PADD 1, stocks fell by -18% or -353k bbl to stand at 1.6m bbl. Implied demand sank -18% to 1.38 mb/d; imports decreased by -27% to 155 kb/d and production decreased -2% to 1.40 mb/d.....
