Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 13, 2013. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials decreased net length in WTI , gasoline, heating oil and natural gas during the reference week. Non-commercials’ net length in WTI fell by -9.4k to 449.1.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,785 active rigs as of August 16, 2013, higher by +14 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +12 to 1,397 (ht: +12; vt-dir: unch) while gas-directed rigs were up by +2 to 388 (ht: unch; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs in areas currently not associated with an established play jumped by +10, led by a +7 rig increase in OK. The 28 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +62 bcf to +79 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +67 bcf. Baker Hughes shows 1,771 active rigs as of August 9, 2013, lower by -5 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -3 to 1,385 (ht: -12; vt-dir: +9) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -2 to 386 (ht: +4; vt-dir: -6). EIA reported a +96 bcf injection for the week ending August 2 (Bloomberg median +79 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +80). The 29 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +64 bcf to +85 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. We published two numbers this week: +75 bcf and +82 bcf (more info below). Nationwide HDDs were up by +4 to reach 6, while nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased by -24 to 59 CDDs. Baker Hughes shows 1,770 active rigs as of July 26, 2013, higher by +6 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +6 to 1,401 (ht: +6; vt-dir: unchanged) and gas-directed rigs were unchanged at 369 (ht: +3; vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +6 to 97 in the Anadarko (OK) but fell by -7 to 162 in the Eagle Ford (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 16 in the Eagle Ford (TX) but fell by -4 to 18 in the Granite Wash (TX).
