Baker Hughes shows 709 active rigs as of December 18, 2015, unchanged from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +17 to 541 (ht: +10; vt-dir: +7) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -17 to 168 (ht: -5; vt-dir: -12). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +2 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -4 in Marcellus ( SWPA ), while increasing by +3 in Marcellus (WV).

We overwrite weekly estimates with monthly releases as monthly EIA data becomes available. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended December 08. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent, natural gas, gasoil and heating oil , but decreased in gasoline and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas decreased by -2.3k to -101.5k in futures and rose by +1.....

Baker Hughes shows 709 active rigs as of December 11, 2015, lower by -28 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -21 to 524 (ht: -11; vt-dir: -10) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -7 to 185 (ht: -4; vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -4 in Permian (TX) and by -2 in Bakken (ND) and Permian (NM). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 19 in Marcellus ( SWPA ).

The EIA reported a -76 bcf withdrawal for the week ending December 3, coming in stronger than our own number at -67 bcf and the Bloomberg median at -65 bcf. Regionally most of the surprise came from the withdrawal reported by salt-dome facilities given that we observed an injection of over 4 bcf from interstate pipeline flows. The overall withdrawal was also quite stronger than market expectations, which had already been boosted from a mid-50s pull, following large draws reported by the big st.....

Baker Hughes shows 737 active rigs as of December 4, 2015, lower by -7 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -10 to 545 (ht: -3; vt-dir: -7) while gas-directed rigs increased by +3 to 192 (ht: +3; vt-dir: unch). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -4 in Permian (TX) and by -3 in Bakken (ND), while increasing by +2 in Anadarko (OK). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 in areas of Texas not associated with any established plays.

Today the EIA reported the first withdrawal of the season at -53 bcf, coming in line with our own number at -52 bcf, but stronger than the Bloomberg median at -47 bcf. Regionally the Midwest surprised with a stronger than expected withdrawal, while the South Central reported a smaller than expected withdrawal. That would imply that the South Central is relying less on exports and more on storage to balance supply and demand as injections come to an end. The withdrawal for the week ending N.....
