Baker Hughes shows 1,750 active rigs as of July 3, 2013, higher by +7 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +5 to 1,395 (ht: -4; vt-dir: +9) while gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 355 (ht: +5; vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -4 to 152, but vertical/directional rigs jumped by +5 to 21, in the Bakken (ND). Similarly in the Eagle Ford, horizontal rigs declined by -3 to 171 while vertical/directional rigs increased by +5 to 37. Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 19 .....

Baker Hughes shows 1,743 active rigs as of June 28, 2013, lower by -11 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -15 to 1,390 (ht: -10; vt-dir: -5) while gas-directed rigs increased by +4 to 353 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +6). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -6 to 156 in the Bakken (ND) but increased by +6 to 27 in areas of Colorado not currently identified with a resource play. Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 24 in the Marcellus (WV), but fell by -3 to 16 in the Eagle Ford (TX).

Oil rigs decreased by -8 to 1,405 (ht: -8; vt-dir: unchanged) while gas-directed rigs fell by -4 to 349 (ht: +1; vt-dir: -5). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -2 in the Permian (TX) to 108. Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -2 to 19 in the Granite Wash (TX), but increased by +3 to 19 in the Marcellus ( NEPA ).

Horizontal oil rigs fell by -3 in the Eagle Ford (TX) to 176, but increased by +4 to 158 in the Bakken (ND). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 18 in the Haynesville (TX) but decreased by -3 to 18 in the Marcellus ( NEPA ).

Oil rigs decreased by -6 to 1,402 (ht: -6; vt-dir: unchanged) while gas-directed rigs were unchanged at 354 (ht: -3; vt-dir: +3). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -9 in the Eagle Ford (TX) to 179 and by -4 in the Anadarko (OK) to 106, but increased by +4 to 110 in the Permian (TX), which is a continuation of last weeks’ trend. Gas-directed rigs were little changed.
