Baker Hughes shows 1,839 active rigs as of December 26, 2014, lower by -35 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -37 to 1,499 (ht: -4; vt-dir: -33) while gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 340 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -3 to 196 in the Eagle Ford (TX) whereas increased by +5 to 264 in the Permian (TX). We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent, gasoline and WTI , but decreased in natural gas and heating oil during the reference week. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent, gasoline and WTI , but decreased in natural gas and heating oil during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas declined by -7.2k to +41.3k in futures and decreased by -4.6k to +67.3k.....

Baker Hughes shows 1,874 active rigs as of December 19, 2014, lower by -18 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -10 to 1,536 (ht: -5; vt-dir: -5) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -8 to 338 (ht: -6; vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -5 to 159 in the Bakken (ND) whereas increased by +5 to 259 in the Permian (TX). Vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -5 to 147 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -3 to 24 in Marcellus (WV).

EIA reported a -64 bcf withdrawal for the week ending December 12 (Bloomberg median -60 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: -60 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -78 bcf to -54 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed -58 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted heating degree days reported by NOAA decreased by -1 to 164 HDDs, while electricity-weighted cooling degree days remained flat at 2 CDDs. Baker Hughes shows 1,892 active rigs as of December 12, 2014, lower by -27 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -29 to 1,546 (ht: -6; vt-dir: -23) while the total number of gas-directed rigs increased by +2 to 346 (ht: +5; vt-dir: -3). Vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -16 to 162 and horizontal oil rigs decreased by -6 to 254 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 19 in Ohio.

We overwrite weekly estimates with monthly releases as monthly EIA data becomes available. Oil rigs increased by +3 to 1,575 (ht: -4; vt-dir: +7) while the total number of gas-directed rigs remained unchanged at 344 (ht: +1; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -4 to 198 in the Eagle Ford (TX) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -1 to 178 in the Permian (TX).
