Baker Hughes shows 1,918 active rigs as of October 17, 2014, lower by -11 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -19 to 1,590 (ht: -9; vt-dir: -10) while gas-directed rigs increased by +8 to 328 (ht: +9; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -7 to 143 in the Anadarko (OK) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -3 to 16 in the Permian (NM). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 17 in Eagle Ford (TX).

EIA reported a +94 bcf injection for the week ending October 10 (Bloomberg median +91 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +89 bcf). The 25 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +78 bcf to +106 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed +90 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted heating degree days reported by NOAA jumped by +33 to 50 HDDs, while electricity-weighted cooling degree days decreased by -5 to 23 CDDs. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended October 07. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent and gasoline , but decreased in natural gas, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas declined by -41.3k to +78.5k in futures and fell by -41.3k to +149.8k in.....

Oil rigs increased by +18 to 1,609 (ht: +11; vt-dir: +7) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -10 to 320 (ht: +1; vt-dir: -11). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 242 in Permian (TX), and gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +4 to 28 in Marcellus (WV).

The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +101 bcf to +108 bcf with a standard deviation of 3 bcf. Our model showed +110 bcf. Nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased by -3 to 28 CDDs, while natural gas-weighted HDDs decreased by -4 to 17 HDDs.
