Baker Hughes shows 1,894 active rigs as of August 22, 2014, lower by -16 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -25 to 1,564 (ht: -14; vt-dir: -11) while gas-directed rigs increased by +9 to 330 (ht: +7; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -2 to 233 and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -4 to 196 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 24 in Marcellus (WV)

Due to a delay in the release of the Canadian storage inventory, today’s report does not include Canadian data. EIA reported a +88 bcf injection for the week ending August 15 (Bloomberg median +84 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +86 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +80 bcf to +88 bcf with a standard deviation of 2 bcf. Our model showed +85 bcf. Nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased by -3 to 62 CDDs, while natural gas-weighted HDDs .....

Propane: US propane inventories increased by +2.5m bbl to 72.8m bbl for the week ended August 15, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +3%, or +1.2m bbl, to 39.9m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +4% or by +1.05m bbl to 24.5m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks increased +4% or +215k bbl to 5.6m bbl. Implied demand decreased -14% to 788 kb/d; imports decreased -50% to 58 kb/d while production rose +2% to 1.53 mb/d last week. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 12. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in heating oil and gasoline , but decreased in natural gas, Brent and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas decreased by -5.8k to +134.8k in futures and declined by -9.5k to +235.7k.....

Oil rigs increased by +1 to 1,589 (ht: +7; vt-dir: -6) while gas-directed rigs increased by +5 to 321 (ht: +5; vt-dir: +0). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 199 in the Eagle Ford (TX) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -7 to 200 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +2 to 22 in Marcellus (WV).

Propane: US propane inventories increased by +1.8m bbl to 70.3m bbl for the week ended August 8, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +4%, or +1.3m bbl, to 38.7m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +2% or by +510k bbl to 23.4m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks decreased -1% or -84k bbl to 5.4m bbl. Oil rigs increased by +15 to 1,588 (ht: +17; vt-dir: -2) while gas-directed rigs increased by +3 to 316 (ht: +1; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +5 to 167 in the Bakken (ND) and vertical/directional oil rigs decreased by -2 to 207 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 23 in Haynesville (LA).
