Baker Hughes shows 1,853 active rigs as of May 23, 2014, lower by -4 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -3 to 1,528 (ht: -8; vt-dir: +5) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -1 to 325 (ht: +3; vt-dir: -4). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -6 to 186 in Eagle Ford (TX) and vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +3 to 216 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs decreased by -2 to 23 in Haynesville (TX).

EIA reported a +106 bcf injection for the week ending May 16 (Bloomberg median +103 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +103 bcf). The 22 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +100 bcf to +111 bcf with a standard deviation of 3 bcf. Our model showed +100 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted HDDs decreased by -20 to 30, while nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA increased by +10 to reach 29 CDDs. In Focus: Incremental LPG exports Although U.S. propane production increased +88 kb/d w-o-w to hit a new high and as PADD 3 inventories continue to exhibit strong builds, a review of planned LPG export facilities – both large and small – suggest the market could tighten in late 1Q and 2Q 2015.

We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent and WTI , but decreased in natural gas, heating oil and gasoline during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas fell by -23.7k to +354.8k in futures and decreased by -47.6k to +461.4k in f.....

Oil rigs increased by +3 to 1,531 (ht: +3; vt-dir: 0) while gas-directed rigs increased by +3 to 326 (ht: +2; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 119 in Anadarko (OK) and vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +4 to 213 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 26 in Marcellus ( SWPA ).

EIA reported a +105 bcf injection (implied flow +97 bcf) for the week ending May 9 (Bloomberg median +99 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +106 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +89 bcf to +108 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed +104 bcf. Nationwide natural gas-weighted HDDs decreased by -22 to 50, while nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA increased by +5 to reach 19 CDDs. Propane: US propane inventories increased by +2.5m bbl to 37.7m bbl for the week ended May 9, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +7%, or +1.4m bbl, to 20.8m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased by +7%, or +830k bbl, to 12.5m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks increased by +6% or +166k bbl to 3.0m bbl. Implied demand increased +22% to 849 kb/d; imports decreased -24% to 55 kb/d and production fell -1% to 1.46 mb/d last week. Oil rigs increased by +1 to 1,528 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +3) while gas-directed rigs stayed the same at 323 (ht: -2; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -4 to 160 in the Bakken (ND) and vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +2 to 3 in Anadarko (KS). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 14 in Granite Wash (TX).
