Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended May 14, 2013. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Baker Hughes shows 1,762 active rigs as of May 17, 2013, unchanged from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -4 to 1,408 (ht: -5; vt-dir: +1) and gas-directed rigs increased by +4 to 354 (ht: +2; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -3 in the Eagle Ford (TX) and Anadarko (OK) to 188 and 110, respectively, but increased by +3 to 106 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +5 to 30 in the Eagle Ford (TX).

EIA reported a +99 bcf injection for the week ending May 10 (Bloomberg median +95 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +95). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +88 bcf to +110 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed +94 bcf. Nationwide HDDs decreased to 49, down by -1 week on week. Oil rigs increased by +9 to 1,412 (ht: +4; vt-dir: +5) and gas-directed rigs decreased by -4 to 350 (ht: +3; vt-dir: -7). Oil rigs increased by +22 to 1,403 (ht: +11; vt-dir: +11) and gas-directed rigs decreased by -12 to 354 (ht: -3; vt-dir: -9). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +9 to 109 in the Anadarko (OK), by +3 to 47 in the Permian (NM) and decreased by -4 to 56 in Texas (Other).
