Commitment of Traders Report - February 22, 2013
Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended February 19. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials decreased net length for the first time since December 11, when the price of WTI was $85.79. Yet net length still remains at its highest level since Februar.....

STATS shows 1,646 active rigs as of February 22, 2013, lower by -7 for the week. Oil rigs decreased by -2 to 1,283 (ht: -1; vt-dir: -1) and gas rigs decreased by -5 to 363 (ht: -9; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +4 to 183 in the Bakken (ND) but fell by -2 to 185 in Eagle Ford (TX). Horizontal gas rigs drilling in both the Eagle Ford (TX) and Marcellus (WV) fell by -4 to 20, but increased by +3 to 24 in another part of the Marcellus ( SWPA ). Baker Hughes shows 1,757 active rigs.....

EIA reported a -127 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 15 (Bloomberg median -124 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -124). The 25 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -116 bcf to -129 bcf with a standard deviation of 3 bcf. Our model showed -129 bcf. Nationwide HDDs dropped to 189, down by -26 week on week. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended February 12. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. STATS shows 1,653 active rigs as of February 15, 2013, lower by -14 for the week. Oil rigs decreased by -9 to 1,285 (ht: -26; vt-dir: +17) and gas rigs decreased by -5 to 368 (ht: -5; vt-dir: unchanged). Horizontal oil rigs fell by -5 to 187 in the Eagle Ford (TX) and fell by -7 to 179 in the Bakken (ND). EIA reported a -157 bcf withdrawal for the week ending February 8 (Bloomberg median -166 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper -167). The 27 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -122 bcf to -175 bcf with a standard deviation of 14 bcf. Our model showed -167 bcf. Nationwide HDDs jumped to 215, up by +30 week on week. STATS shows 1,667 active rigs as of February 8, 2013, lower by -5 for the week. Oil rigs decreased by -1 to 1,294 (ht: +5; vt-dir: -6) and gas rigs decreased by -4 to 373 (ht: -8; vt-dir: +4). Horizontal oil rigs jumped by +8 to 192 in the Eagle Ford (TX) but fell by -4 to 102 in the Anadarko (OK).
