Baker Hughes shows 1,913 active rigs as of August 29, 2014, higher by +19 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +11 to 1,575 (ht: +3; vt-dir: +8) while gas-directed rigs increased by +8 to 338 (ht: +6; vt-dir: +2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 to 70 in the Permian (NM) and vertical/directional oil rigs increased by +5 to 201 in the Permian (TX). Gas-directed horizontal rigs increased by +3 to 28 in Marcellus ( SWPA ).

EIA reported a +75 bcf injection for the week ending August 22 (Bloomberg median +77 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +77 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +71 bcf to +85 bcf with a standard deviation of 3 bcf. Our model showed +77 bcf. Nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA increased by +2 to 64 CDDs, while natural gas-weighted HDDs remained flat at 3 HDDs. Propane: US propane inventories increased by +1.9m bbl to 74.7m bbl for the week ended August 22, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +3%, or +1.0m bbl, to 41.0m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +3% or by +642k bbl to 25.1m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks increased +2% or +104k bbl to 5.7m bbl. Implied demand increased +25% to 985 kb/d; imports increased +14% to 66 kb/d and production rose +2% to 1.56 mb/d last week. Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended August 19. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline and heating oil. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas and heating oil , but decreased in Brent, gasoline and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas grew by +1.7k to +136.5k in futures and rose by +5.0k to +240.7k in futur.....

Oil rigs decreased by -25 to 1,564 (ht: -14; vt-dir: -11) while gas-directed rigs increased by +9 to 330 (ht: +7; vt-dir: +2). Due to a delay in the release of the Canadian storage inventory, today’s report does not include Canadian data. EIA reported a +88 bcf injection for the week ending August 15 (Bloomberg median +84 bcf, Bloomberg whisper: +86 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +80 bcf to +88 bcf with a standard deviation of 2 bcf. Our model showed +85 bcf. Nationwide electricity-weighted cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased by -3 to 62 CDDs, while natural gas-weighted HDDs .....

Propane: US propane inventories increased by +2.5m bbl to 72.8m bbl for the week ended August 15, 2014. PADD 3 inventories increased +3%, or +1.2m bbl, to 39.9m bbl. PADD 2 stocks increased +4% or by +1.05m bbl to 24.5m bbl. In PADD 1, stocks increased +4% or +215k bbl to 5.6m bbl. Implied demand decreased -14% to 788 kb/d; imports decreased -50% to 58 kb/d while production rose +2% to 1.53 mb/d last week.
