Baker Hughes shows 1,961 active rigs as of May 4, 2012, up +20 from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +27 (ht: +21, vt-dir: +6) and total gas rigs went down by -7 (ht: -2, vt-dir: -5). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +7 in Anadarko (TX) and by +2 in Bakken (ND) and Permian (NM), while vertical/directional oil rigs went up by +3 in Permian (TX) and by +3 in Permian (NM). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -2 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Woodford (Anadarko).

STATS shows 1,870 active rigs as of May 4, 2012, down -29 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went down by -19 (ht: -9, vt-dir: -10) and total gas rigs went down by -10 (ht: -8, vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs went down by -10 in Bakken (ND) and by -8 in Eagle Ford (TX), while going up by +8 in Anadarko (OK). Vertical/Directional oil rigs went down by -4 in Anadarko (OK) and Monterey (CA). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -6 in Granite Wash (OK) and by -2 in Granite Wash (TX).

EIA reported a +28 bcf injection for the week ended April 27 (Bloomberg median +29 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +28 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +20 bcf to +39 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +29 bcf. Weather was cooler week on week (69 HDDs vs. 62 HDDs), as lower temperatures in the East outweighed warmer weather in the West and South Central regions, which however led to no change in CDDs (10 CDDs). We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercial net length in WTI rose for the second consecutive week during the week ended April 24. Non-commercials expanded net length in WTI by 11.9k to 261.9k in futures.....

EIA reported a +47 bcf injection for the week ended April 20 (Bloomberg median +45 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +42 bcf). The 25 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +39 bcf to +69 bcf with a standard deviation of 8 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed +39 bcf. Weather was much warmer week on week (62 HDDs vs. 101 HDDs), and higher temperatures in the Northeast made up for the cooling demand lost in the South Central region in the second half of the week (10 CDDs vs. 7 CDDs).
