Baker Hughes shows 1,976 active rigs as of March 30, 2012, up +11 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +5 (ht: +1, vt-dir: +4) and total gas rigs went up by +6 (ht: +5, vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs went down by -5 in Eagle Ford (TX), followed by -3 in Anadarko (OK), while going up by +2 in Bakken (MT) and Permian (TX). Gas rigs did not have any significant moves on a regional basis.

STATS shows 1,902 active rigs as of March 30, 2012, up +1 rig from a week ago. Oil rigs went up by +14 (ht: +17, vt-dir: -3) and total gas rigs fell by -13 (ht: -13, vt-dir: unch). Horizontal oil rigs went up by another +6 in Bakken (ND), followed by +2 in Anadarko (KS) and +2 in Monterey (CA), while vt-dir oil rigs fell by -4 in Monterey (CA). EIA reported a +57 bcf injection for the week ended March 23 (Bloomberg median +48 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +48 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +40 bcf to +70 bcf with a standard deviation of 6 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed +44 bcf. Weather was much warmer week on week (50 HDDs vs. 95 HDDs) as higher temperatures in the Northeast more than outweighed a slightly cooler Northwest. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercial net length in WTI declined during the week ended March 20 but continues to remain at relatively elevated levels. Non-commercials cut their net long position by 4.....

STATS shows 1,901 active rigs as of March 23, 2012, up +3 rigs from a week ago. Total oil rigs were unchanged week on week (ht: +1, vt-dir: -1) and total gas rigs went up by +3 (ht: +6, vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +5 in Bakken (ND), while falling by -7 in Eagle Ford (TX). Permian (NM) gained another +5 vt-dir oil rigs. Horizontal gas rigs went up by +4 in Eagle Ford (TX), likely due to reclassification. In Granite Wash (TX) horizontal gas rigs went up by +4 and in Granite Was.....

Horizontal oil rigs went up by +6 in Permian (NM), followed by +4 in Anadarko (TX), while falling by -5 in Anadarko (OK). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -2 in Granite Wash (TX) and by -2 in Marcellus ( NEPA ).

EIA reported a +11 bcf injection for the week ended March 16 (Bloomberg median +9 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +9 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from -5 bcf to +27 bcf with a standard deviation of 7 bcf. Our pipeline scrape model showed +11 bcf.
