Commitments of Traders Report – July 03, 2017

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended June 27. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in gasoline and natural gas , but decreased in Brent, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas increased by +14.6k to +389.8k in futures and rose by +8.9k.....

US: Baker Hughes shows 940 active rigs as of June 30, 2017, lower by -1 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -2 to 756 (ht: unch; vt-dir: -2), and gas-directed rigs increased by +1 to 184 (ht: unch; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +2 in Permian (TX), by +1 in Bakken (ND) and by +1 in Permian (NM), while declining by -1 in Anadarko (OK), by -1 in Eagle Ford (TX) and by -2 in Other areas not associated with a specific play. Horizontal gas rigs increased by +1 in Eagle Ford .....


EIA NG STORAGE REPORT | June 29, 2017

The EIA reported a +46 bcf injection for the week ending June 22. The number was -8 bcf below the +54 bcf mark our flow model had anticipated on Tuesday and -6 bcf below the Bloomberg median. Our storage model predicted slightly stronger builds in the Midwest, Mountain and Pacific (higher by 1 bcf each), but most of the overestimate was in the South Central. While our flow model suggested injections should have been flat week-over-week, export and power balances within the South Central show.....

Please find attached data and charts detailing U.S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended June 22, 2017. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -0.01 bcf/d, higher by +0.54 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 2.06 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 30.5 bcf/d, higher by +1.9 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 83 population weighted CDDs, up 10 week over week.

In case you missed it… Our new rig report has been expanded to cover Canadian oil and gas rig data. New regional allocations for Canadian rigs are based on drilling licenses and operator’s geological targets. US: Baker Hughes shows 941 active rigs as of June 23, 2017, higher by +8 from the previous week. Oil rigs increased by +11 to 758 (ht: +12; vt-dir: -1), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -3 to 183 (ht: -2; vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +6 in Anadarko (OK), by +2 in Bakke.....

The EIA reported a +61 bcf injection for the week ending June 15. The number was +5 bcf above the +56 bcf mark our flow model had anticipated on Tuesday and +6 bcf above the Bloomberg median. The region that deviated the most from the model’s estimate was the Midwest, where injections were stronger than anticipated.
