Baker Hughes shows 443 active rigs as of April 8, 2016, lower by -7 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -8 to 354 (ht: -5; vt-dir: -3) while gas-directed rigs increased by +1 to 89 (ht: unch; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs decreased by -3 in Permian (TX) and by -2 in Bakken (ND), but increased by +2 in Anadarko (OK). On the gas side, horizontal gas rigs decreased by -1 to 2 in Haynesville (TX), but increased by +1 to 4 in Eagle Ford (TX).

The EIA reported a +12 bcf injection for the week ending March 31, coming in slightly above our own number at +8 bcf, and the Bloomberg median at +8 bcf. Reported South Central injection was significantly higher than our estimates, while East and Midwest withdrawals came in stronger than our models suggested. There will be no commentary today. Please note our extended U.S. and Canada tables covering the injection season are included in the attachment.

Please find attached data and charts detailing the latest CFTC Commitments of Traders Report for the week ended March 29. We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in natural gas , but decreased in Brent, gasoline, gasoil, heating oil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +26.0k to +24.0k in futures and grew by +4.0k to +0.8.....

Oil rigs decreased by -10 to 362 (ht: -8; vt-dir: -2) while gas-directed rigs decreased by -4 to 88 (ht: -5; vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +3 in Eagle Ford (TX), but decreased by -5 in Permian (TX), -2 in Bakken (ND), and -5 in other areas not associated with any major shale play. The EIA reported a -25 bcf withdrawal for the week ending March 24, coming in line with our own number at -25 bcf, and the Bloomberg median at -25 bcf. Regional draws and builds came in line with expectations as well, implying relatively normal operational conditions compared to the elevated volatility of the recent few weeks as inventory surplus reached record levels. Please find attached data and charts detailing U. S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended March 24, 2016. Total net imports for the reference week averaged 1.05 bcf/d, higher by +0.87 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 2.84 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 23.4 bcf/d, unchanged week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 78 electric-weighted HDDs, higher by +36 from the previous week.
