EIA reported a +77 bcf injection for the week ended September 28 (Bloomberg median +73 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +73 bcf). The 26 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +55 bcf to +81 bcf with a standard deviation of 5 bcf. Our model showed +74 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased to 29 CDDs from 30 CDDs the prior week. Nationwide HDDs increased to 34 from 23 in the prior week. We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Baker Hughes shows 1,845 active rigs as of September 28, 2012, down -11 from a week ago. Oil rigs increased by +8 (ht: +10, vt-dir: -2) and total gas rigs decreased by -19 (ht: -17., vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +7 in “Other” regions and +3 in Anadarko (TX), while going down by -2 in Anadarko (OK). Vertical/directional oil rigs went up by +4 in Permian (TX) and went down -4 in “Other” regions. Horizontal gas rigs went down -5 to 61 and -4 in 28 in Eagle Ford (TX) and Marcellus.....

STATS shows 1,806 active rigs as of September 28, 2012, down -17 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs decreased by -15 (ht: +6, vt-dir: -21.) and total gas rigs decreased by -2 (ht: -9, vt-dir: +7). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +7 and +4 in Permian (NM) and Bakken (ND) to 42 and 201, respectively. Horizontal oil rig count decreased by -4 in Eagle Ford (TX) from its record high last week. Baker Hughes shows 1,856 active rigs as of September 21, 2012, down -5 from a week ago. Oil rigs went down by -11 (ht: +9, vt-dir: -20) and total gas rigs went up by +6 (ht: +7., vt-dir: -1). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +6 in Permian (TX) and +3 in Bakken (MT), while going down by -2 in Bakken (ND). Vertical/directional oil rigs went down by -12 in Permian (TX) and -6 in Monterey (CA). STATS shows 1,823 active rigs as of September 21, 2012, down -7 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs decreased by -1 (ht: -1, vt-dir: unch.) and total gas rigs decreased by -6 (ht: +1, vt-dir: -7). Eagle Ford (TX) recorded its highest horizontal oil rig count this week, (up +9 to 204). Six horizontal oil rigs moved from Anadarko (OK) to Anadarko (TX) ending the week at 110 and 26, respectively.
