EIA reported a +66 bcf injection for the week ended August 24 (Bloomberg median +65 bcf, Bloomberg Whisper +65 bcf). The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +53 bcf to +74 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +67 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased to 56 CDDs from 74 CDDs the prior week. Heating demand is also back in the Rockies and New England, with nationwide HDDs moving up to 5 HDDs compared to 3 HDDs the prior week. Total US: .....

We focus on net length of non-commercial traders as well as net length of money managers and swap dealers as indicated in the disaggregated data for WTI , natural gas, gasoline, and heating oil. Non-commercials expanded WTI net length during the week ended August 21. Non-commercial net length increased by +33.3k to 255.7k in futures and by +30.9k to 305.8k in futures .....

Baker Hughes
Baker Hughes shows 1,894 active rigs as of August 24, 2012, down -15 from a week ago. Oil rigs went down by -17 (ht: +1, vt-dir: -18) and total gas rigs went up by +2 (ht: +5, vt-dir: -3). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +4 in Permian (NM) and +3 in Anadarko (OK), while going down by -3 in Permian (TX). Horizontal gas rigs went down by -3 in Marcellus ( NEPA ), while going up by +5 in Colorado.

STATS shows 1,844 active rigs as of August 24, 2012, up +2 rigs from a week ago. Oil rigs were up by +7 (ht: +2, vt-dir: +5) and total gas rigs decreased by -5 (ht: -6, vt-dir: +1). Horizontal oil rigs went up by +4 in Anadarko (KS) and by +2 in Monterey (CA) and Permian (TX), while going down by -3 in Anadarko (TX) and by -2 in Anadarko (OK) and Permian (NM). Vertical/Directional oil rigs went up by +3 in Eagle Ford (TX), while going down by -3 in Monterey (CA). Horizontal gas rigs went dow.....

The 24 estimates submitted to Bloomberg varied from +34 bcf to +53 bcf with a standard deviation of 4 bcf. Our model showed +42 bcf. Nationwide cooling degree days reported by NOAA decreased to 74 CDDs from 92 CDDs the prior week.
