US: Baker Hughes shows 939 active rigs as of August 25, 2017, lower by -6 from the previous week. Oil rigs decreased by -4 to 759 (ht: -3; vt-dir: -1), and gas-directed rigs decreased by -2 to 180 (ht: unch; vt-dir: -2). Horizontal oil rigs increased by +2 in Bakken (ND) and by +1 in Permian (TX), while declining by -1 in Anadarko (TX), by -1 in Eagle Ford (TX), by -1 in Permian (NM) and by -3 in Other areas not associated with a specific play. The EIA reported a 43 bcf injection for the week ending August 17th. The number was 2 bcf below our estimate and 3 bcf below the Bloomberg median. The largest regional difference this week was in the South Central again, where our prediction was 4 bcf weaker than the actual reported withdrawal. While we factored in the increase in ERCOT non-wind/non-nuclear demand, the magnitude could have been stronger than expected leading to the stronger withdrawal. Please find the attached data and charts detailing U.S. gas imports and power demand for the week ended August 17, 2017. Total net imports for the reference week averaged -0.34 bcf/d, down by -0.05 bcf/d week-on-week. During the same week last year, U.S. net imports averaged 1.33 bcf/d. Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 34.3 bcf/d, up by +0.9 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 79 population weighted CDDs, up 9 week over week.

We provide all Legacy and Disaggregated trader positions for natural gas, WTI , Brent, gasoline, heating oil and gasoil. Non-commercials increased net length in Brent, natural gas and heating oil , but decreased in gasoline, gasoil and WTI during the reference week. Non-commercials net length in natural gas rose by +50.6k to +371.1k in futures and grew by +49.2k t.....

The EIA reported a +53 bcf injection for the week ending August 10th. The number was 5 bcf below both our estimate and the Bloomberg median. This week had a downward revision to working gas storage in South Central salt caverns between the periods June 29th to August 3rd, 2017. The majority of the revision was to June 29th inventories, which were revised down -10 bcf (closer to what our model had forecast for that week). In terms of actual inventory levels this puts us at 3,082 bcf, suggesting.....

Average natural gas demand in the power sector was 33.3 bcf/d, down by -1.9 bcf/d week-over-week. During the reference week, the contiguous US observed 71 population weighted CDDs, down 12 week over week.
